Mozart Requiem
First Church Cambridge
Cambridge, MA
Share this event:

The Jameson Singers 7th season comes to a memorable conclusion with two performances of the Mozart Requiem with soloists Sierra Marcy, Julia Cavallaro, Michael Barrett, and Harris Ipock. When Mozart died in 1791 at the too-young age of 35, he left an unfinished masterpiece. Yet the Requiem has become, deservedly, one of the most popular choral works of all time. Our performance features the elegant and highly-acclaimed edition and completion by virtuoso pianist and Mozart scholar Robert Levin.

Also on the program is Mozart's otherworldly Ave Verum Corpus, written earlier in 1791, during a short break from composing The Magic Flute.

Rounding out our performances are two motets from the great German master Heinrich Schütz, from his 1648 collection, Geistliche Chormusik. 1648 marked the end of the Thirty Years War, a conflict that convulsed Europe and caused the loss of six million lives. In these sacred motets Schütz created soothing meditations, setting words of loss and sadness, faith and hope: So fahr ich hin zu Jesu Christ, "I go to Jesus Christ he leads me to eternal life, and Die mit Tränen säen, They who sow with tears will reap with joy.
