STRANGE UMBRELLA #1
**THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED DUE TO HURRICANE SANDY**
STRANGE UMBRELLA - New Sounds at Eyebeam Live Performances: 7-9PM - Tickets $15.
7:00PM - Roddy Schrock and Joon Lee present Rabbit Catcher, a literary approach to sound performance built from hummed, grunted, and sung sounds as realized by Joon through an aural transcription of Whitney Houston's I'm Every Woman ("Every Woman's House/ Club Mix" produced by Clivelles & Cole). Onstage, Joon will work to "sing" along with the mediated electronic piece (not lip-synch it) built from these sounds. The resultant sound texture, both live and electronic, is meditative and melancholy, an aural bed in which the audience can luxuriate.
7:30PM - Triple Point (Pauline Oliveros, Doug van Nort, and Jonas Braasch) will give a live performance with and without FILTER: Freely Improvising, Learning and Transforming Evolutionary Recombination system. It is an "intelligent" interactive machine performer and a generative composition. This technology listens to the the textural and gestural qualities as well as the stylistic tendencies of a performer and then takes musical actions, improvising as a partner with the player and using their own audio as source material. FILTER does this by recombining, transforming and re-presenting this material in a radically new form as a new musical offering, in dialogue with its human partner. This work is undertaken as part of CAIRA: creative, artificially-intuitive and reasoning agent that is underway at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute involving Doug van Nort, Jonas Braasch, and Pauline Oliveros with faculty and students from Architecture and Cognitive Science.
