FRIDAY AFTERNOONS
March 3, 17, 31 and April 14 at 2pm

In this series of concerts, pianist David Rothman
will perform all of the piano sonatas of W.A Mozart.

"David is the Glenn Gould of Portland. Single-minded. Idiosyncratic. A voracious appetite for the piano works of all composers, especially Chopin." ~ Michael Barnes, Organist and Pianist Marylhurst University Adjunct Professor of Music

Concert pianist, David Rothman is into completion when it comes to performing great works of the piano repertoire. In 2002, he played from memory all the Beethoven sonatas in a period of five weeks. In 2015, he performed the complete works of Frédéric Chopin which included 51 Mazurkas, 24 Études, 24 Preludes, 19 Nocturnes, 4 Ballades, 4 Scherzos, 4 Impromptus, 7 Polonaises, 14 Waltzes, one Berceuse, one Fantaisie, and one Barcarole. With accompanist, Michael Barnes, he played twelve concertos, including the Brahms Concerto #2 and Schumann Concerto in A minor. Now he tackles all of the piano sonatas of the great Classical composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. This concert series occurs every other Friday, beginning March 3 and ending April 14. Although the concerts are free of charge, donations made to The Old Church Concert Hall will be greatly appreciated. Next on Mr. Rothmans list, Schubert sonatas, which are scheduled to debut in 2018.

David Rothman was born in Toronto Canada in 1962, and when he was two, his family moved to Los Angeles. At six, Mr. Rothman began to study the piano, and at ten, he was accepted into the Menuhin School in England. Nadia Boulanger was among the panel who accepted Mr. Rothman into the school. At seventeen, he was accepted into the Curtis Institute where he studied with Mieczyslaw Horszowski. Before leaving the Menuhin School, he played a Beethoven Sonata at Wigmore Hall in conjunction with the school and in December 1981, at Curtis Hall. David Rothman presently lives in Portland, Oregon and is a frequent guest artist on The Old Churchs Sack Lunch Concert Series.
