February 2008 Revolve Film and Music Festival
Tales of the Rat Fink, a film by Ron Mann (talesoftheratfink.com) A documentary about the anti-Mickey Mouse, Rat Fink, and his exuberant creator, Ed Roth. With the voice talents of John Goodman, Ann-Margret, Jay Leno, Brian Wilson, Tom Wolfe, Matt Groening, Robert Williams, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Paul LeMat, Billy F Gibbons, and The Smothers Brothers.
From the press kit: The subject of Tom Wolfe's essay "The Kandy Kolored Tangerine Flake Streamline Baby," Ed Roth helped fuel the "Kustom Kulture"/ Hot rod movement of the 1960's in Southern California. Hot rodding grew from crude backyard engineering where performance was the bottom line into a refined artform where aesthetics were equally important.
Our commentary: This uplifting film has made a splash at many film festivals all over the world, including Toronto, Halifax, Australia and even Singapore, yet has not screened in a theatre anywhere in North Carolina. With the film's backdrop of kustom car culture and the history of pinstriping, we couldn't believe it hasn't hit the South. It only showed once at Georgia State. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did. In fabulous, crystal clear digibeta. 76 min.
