Crash Course 101 is a 7-week course that teaches folks (aged 18+) the basics of roller skating for roller derby.
Hosted by Ottawa Roller Derby, participants will learn basic skating techniques such as stopping, falling safely, crossovers, derby position, and footwork, as well as an introduction to the rules of roller derby.
Please note that all participants must BRING THE FOLLOWING safety gear as well as quad skates (not rollerblades):
- helmet (bicycle, skateboard, multisport, hockey, etc.) - knee pads (bigger is better) - elbow pads - wrist guards
Rental skates are available (first-come, first-served)from honeyskates@gmail.com. A limited number of skates are also available from ORD. Please email ordcrashcourse101@gmail.com for more information.
Insurance can be purchased at a cost of $30, payable to CRDi, by following this link: http://www.crdinfo.ca/. Click on "East Skaters" and follow steps. Insurance is mandatory for anyone who joins the league after completing the crash course.
