Volti Open Rehearsal: "Wear Flowers in Your Hair"
Come see and hear the birth of a new piece of music:  "Wear Flowers in Your Hair"

Volti  San Francisco's award-winning vocal chamber music group  holds a young-composer competition every year.  Join this year's winner, 30-year-old composer Dan Visconti, the 20 Volti singers, and conductor Bob Geary, and find out what happens as Volti reads through the first draft of the music he's writing for Volti.  Dan says his piece, called "Wear Flowers in Your Hair," is intended as "a celebration of San Francisco's culture, diversity and tolerance."

Have a glass of wine and a light snack, meet the composer, and chat with him and the singers and conductor about the process of commissioning, composing and performing a new choral work. Listen while Bob and the singers sing the piece and talk with the composer about their questions and suggestions for changes, and chime in at a Q&A session before we end the evening. It's a fascinating look into the truly collaborative nature of music-making!

Dan Visconti (b. 1982) is an up-and-coming young composer whose music has been performed by the Kronos Quartet, the Minnesota Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic Scharoun Ensemble, and many others.   Currently, he is engaged in a multi-year residency with opera companies including Seattle Opera, Opera Theatre St. Louis, New York City Opera, and the Metropolitan Opera as recipient of the Douglas Moore Fellowship in American Opera. http://www.danvisconti.com/

Volti will premiere "Wear Flowers in Your Hair" in concerts in March 2013.  Come be part of the process of midwifing this music, and then come back in March to hear the finished product!
