War and Peace
Join us for the orchestral suite from Sergei Prokofiev's epic opera, War and Peace, which explores the impact of war during Napoleon's invasion of Russia in 1812. Next, Ralph Vaughan Williams' Dona Nobis Pacem (Grant Us Peace), an oratorio written in 1936 for chorus, orchestra, soprano and baritone soloists, presents an appeal for peace with war looming on England's horizon, all the more haunting for its prophetic vision of World War II. Finally, Mack Wilberg's Let Peace Still the Strife speaks of peace calming the strife after war and urges reconciliation and is a fitting epilogue to the concert.
