House Concert Series: Ramon "Rabbit" Sanchez (Bajo Sexto) And Lorenzo Martinez (Accordion), Spring Fed Records CD Release
This will be an evening of the best in conjunto music from Lorenzo Martinez and Ramon Rabbit Sanchez, two of the finest and most versatile musicians to come out of the conjunto homeland in South Texas.  Together, Lorenzo and Rabbit have forged a unique sound that combines the feel of old school traditional conjunto with a highly progressive sensibility, and the stunning virtuosity of true legends. This show will be a CD release party for their new recording on Spring Fed Records, which is a collection of recordings done in the studio in San Antonio and played live at a historic concert at the Center for Popular Music at Middle Tennessee University in Murfreesboro.

Spring Fed Records is happy to announce the upcoming release of new recordings of Texas-Mexican conjunto music from Lorenzo Martinez and Ramon Rabbit Sanchez, two of the finest musicians to come out of the conjunto homeland in South Texas.  Conjunto is a core Southern music played on the button accordion and the bajo sexto, a 12 string bass unique to the borderlands. Lorenzo Martinez is a master accordionist with a body of unique tunes who began playing professionally at age thirteen after taking early lessons from conjunto founder Don Santiago Jimenez. Though widely revered in Texas for his musicianship, Lorenzo has only once played outside the state, at a historic concert with Rabbit at the Center for Popular Music at MTSU in March, 2016. Rabbit Sanchez is himself recognized as a stunning player and the most accomplished bajo player alive. Over five decades he has toured and recorded with virtually every major recording artist in conjunto from Angel Flores to Mingo Saldivar to Flaco Jimenez, and was even the first bajista to play Carnegie Hall. Together, Lorenzo and Rabbit have forged a unique sound that combines the feel of old school traditional conjunto with a highly progressive sensibility, and the stunning virtuosity of true legends. This cd, their first recording despite years of playing together, showcases the core of conjunto style with tracks never performed conjunto style before. A special feature of the cd is inclusion of live recordings from Lorenzo and Rabbits concert at the Center for Popular Music, the first conjunto show at MTSU.

About Rabbit and Lorenzo:
Lorenzo Martinez is a master accordionist with a body of unique tunes including rare paso dobles never before played conjunto style.  Lorenzo began playing conjunto professionally at age thirteen after taking early lessons from conjunto founder Don Santiago Jimenez. He now teaches accordion at the Conjunto Heritage Taller in San Antonio in highly sought after classes. His students have won the Texas Folklife Big Squeeze contest and gone on to successful careers in conjunto, helping to sustain the conjunto tradition.

Rabbit Sanchez is a legendary figure in conjunto music and is widely recognized the most accomplished bajo player alive. Over five decades he has toured and recorded with virtually every major recording artist in conjunto music from Angel Flores to Mingo Saldivar, Santiago Jimenez, Eva Ybarra, and Flaco Jimenez. He has played dances and festivals all over the country and Rabbit was even the first bajista to play Carnegie Hall.
