After meeting in an Environmental program at Pomona College and bonding over a shared concern for the future of the planet, Trapdoor Social's Merritt Graves and Skylar Funk started off on a journey to make some important music and do some good along the way.

The duo introduced themselves with the 2012 EP Death Of A Friend, which combined the two writers' influences into a driving emotive alt-pop experience. Produced by Curt Schneider, the EP features Death Cab For Cuties Jason McGerr on drums. The EP made waves at radio, when their single Like You Never became the #1 listener requested track on KROQs Locals Only show, and enjoyed radio play from a number of major market stations around the US, including regular rotation on Q87.7 in Chicago. The song "Away" also played for much of 2014 on a Discount Tire commercial nationally.

In May 2014, Trapdoor Social released the Science of Love EP, which explores both sides of Skylar and Merritts influences as songwriters. As the boys started work on the EP, they became connected to Homeboy Industries, a local non-profit that re-trains former gang members for jobs in the economies of the future. Marrying their passion for the environment with their musical ambition, they decided to partner with Homeboy Industries and donate 100% of proceeds from their forthcoming record towards adding a 6.4kw solar rooftop to the companys headquarters. By the time the records presale campaign was complete, the project had been fully funded.

TDS toured 2 laps around the US in the summer of 2014 with new members Eyal Dahan (drums), Louie Gonzalez (guitar), and Patrick Griffen (bass). The band is now back in LA working on a new album.
