In a first-ever performance of its kind, the concert will highlight works of composers such as Whitacre, Gjeilo, and Paulus, in front of the magnificent backdrop of the Scottish Rite Scenery of Thomas Gibbs Moses, master Scenographer. SINGERS IN ACCORD is uniquely structured as a singer-led choral ensemble which collaborates with a new conductor in each concert to create distinctive concert experiences for its audience. The mission of the 55-voice auditioned chorale is to enrich lives and build community through the power of choral music. It strives to enrich the cultural life of Minnesota communities through outreach, education and innovative performances. It is a 501(C) (3) nonprofit corporation that does not employ paid staff. Because of this, financial support given is tax deductible and goes directly to supporting its artistic mission and community outreach efforts.
Dr. Andrew Barrett Andrew Barrett holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts in vocal performance from the University of Minnesota where he also earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees. Andrew graduated Magna Cum Laude, and is a member of Phi Kappa Phi, scholar's fraternity. He has studied abroad at the Mozarteum in Salzburg with French baritone, Gérard Souzay, and received a fellowship to study with Håkan Hagegård at the Hagegården in Gunnarsbyn, Sweden.
While at the University of Minnesota, Andrew performed the leading roles of Der Tanzmeister from Ariadne auf Naxos; the title role of Albert Herring and Danceny, in Dangerous Liaisons. Andrew has been seen as a soloist with the College of St. Catherine's Choral Society, St. Mark's Music Series, Sonomento, (MacPhail School), and the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire.
Andrew has also performed with the Minot Symphony Orchestra (Bach, St. John Passion) and Opera for the Young. In addition to taking part in nearly thirty productions in the ensemble with the Minnesota Opera, Andrew was also a soloist with The Minnesota Opera's preview tour at age 21.
Andrew had been the tenor soloist, section leader and assistant conductor for Exultate Chamber Choir and Orchestra, with whom he has several recordings in all of those roles. Andrew was with Exultate from 2004-2016.
In addition to the rigors of teaching solid vocal technique for all singers, Andrew specializes in vocal rehabilitation for damaged and abused voices, and the retraining of aging voices.
