Join Kaleidoscope Dance Company as they present the Gift of Dance, an afternoon of original, new modern dance works choreographed by youth ages 7-16.

For the first time in the 36 year history of the Gift of Dance, the dancers will perform their own choreography to live classical music. Musicians Annie Chang-Center, pianist, and Erika Pierson, cello, curated a selection of classical music and the dancers chose pieces that sparked their creativity.

Listen and enjoy as Kaleidoscope shares work inspired by a range of composers including Rachmaninoff (Russian), Debussy (French), Bartok (Hungarian), de Falla (Spanish), and Gershwin (American).

Kaleidoscope Dance Company engages in a collaborative process in multi-age groups, using choreographic forms to compose work that is deeply personal yet universal in its appeal.

Annie Chang-Center, violist and pianist, started performing as a pianist in her native Taiwan when she was six years old. Since coming to the U.S. at thirteen, Annie has concertized in Europe, Asia, and the U.S. as a soloist, chamber, and orchestral musician. She has performed as a piano soloist with the San Francisco Symphony, Hong Kong Philharmonic, and Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. As a violist, she has performed at festivals around the world and has collaborated with members of the Juilliard, Guarneri, Emerson, and Philadelphia string quartets. She is a chamber music coach for Cornish Summer Music, Summer Sounds, and Seattle Chamber Music Society's 'Music In The Classroom' Program.

Erika Pierson, cellist, earned her Bachelor's Degree of Cello Performance from Indiana University and her Master's of Music Performance from University of Michigan. Erika has given solo recitals in England, Germany, Spain, and in the United States. She has performed as featured soloist with orchestras in Berlin, Michigan, and Washington. On the less classical side of things, she has performed with Mannheim Steamroller, Rod Stewart, the Walkmen, and Deltron 3030. Currently Erika performs regularly as the cellist in Bella Sala String Quartet, NOCCO Chamber Orchestra, and freelances and teaches in the Seattle area.

Enliven your holiday season with this inspiring, uplifting, and family-friendly concert as Kaleidoscope Dance Company shares the Gift of Dance AND live music with you!

Audience members are invited to join the company dancers and Artistic Director Anna Mansbridge on stage for a community dance during intermission!

Silent Auction (themed gift baskets and delectable desserts) to benefit the Creative Dance Center begins at 2:30. Delicious, homemade concessions are available prior to the show and during intermission.

This vibrant show, described by the Seattle Weekly as "refreshing," shares a message of peace and cooperation, especially meaningful during the holiday season.  "These students are professional in every sense of the word.... Their graceful motions, their faces full of feeling... this is why we need the arts. They have the power to heal us in ways we cannot explain." (Valley View).
