Merrimans' Playhouse Jazz Performance Series presents Quintessentially Cowan Ensemble!
Quintessentially Cowan Ensemble is led by award-winning jazz trumpeter, composer and arranger Scott Cowan, who has been performing and educating for decades from the East coast to the Midwest. The quintet for this performance also features Andrew Rathbun on saxophone, Steve Talaga on piano, Keith Hall on drums, and Matt Hughes on bass. His compositions and arrangements have been featured at the Jazz Education Network Conventions (JEN), Lincoln Center, New York City, International Association of Jazz Educators conferences, the Boston Globe Jazz Festival, the Detroit International Jazz Festival and by professional American, European and Asian ensembles. As a leading jazz educator, Cowan has been a former jazz faculty member at New England Conservatory, Berklee College of Music and for the past 15 years has been a jazz specialist at Western Michigan University. He has been an Artist/Educator/Clinician for the Conn-Selmer Instrument Company since 2002 and has given clinics throughout the U.S. as well as Finland and Great Britain. His two CDs as a leader, Jacks Place and Premiere, have received outstanding reviews from Jazz Times, All.music.com and AllAboutJazz.com. Jacks Place features 10 original compositions for small and medium size jazz ensembles and has been featured on over 50 U.S. radio stations as well on multiple European (BBC) jazz programs.
