Live at Studio5: The Don Stiernberg Trio
Don Stiernberg, mandolin
Andy Brown, guitar
Mark Sonksen, bass
Internationally renowned master of the jazz mandolin, Don Stiernberg, will be appearing for a special show at Studio5 with his trio on November 11th. Though Don travels far and wide spreading musical joy, we are fortunate that he calls Chicago home, and are thrilled he will be the first performer in our "Live @ Studio5" jazz series.
While still in his teens, Don learned to play the mandolin from the innovative and influential virtuoso Jethro Burns. Jethro referred to Don as his "graduate student", hired him to play in his band, and guided him to a career as a professional musician which has already lasted for decades. A leading exponent of jazz mandolin style, Don has nine recording projects of his own and appears on many others by a variety of artists in all styles. Chicago Tribune jazz critic Howard Reich called Don "one of the world's leading jazz mandolin virtuosos."
