(A CONVERSATION WITH DAVID WALKER - WHAT IS BLAXPLOITATION?) (180 mins)
David Walker AKA BADAZZMOFO in person
Humanist Hall, 2:00 PM (180m)
A seminar/film screening with David Walker in person
David Walker is an award-winning journalist, filmmaker, comic book writer and creator of the cult culture magazine BADAZZMOFO. He is recognized as a leading expert on the Blaxploitation cinema genre, and specifically the events surrounding the production of THE MACK shot in Oakland in 1972. Join OAKUFF for a screening of his seminal documentary featuring interviews with dozens of luminaries including Jim Brown, Jim Kelly, Fred Williamson, Rudy Ray Moore, Ron O'Neal, and many more. After the film, OAKUFF programmer and author Shawn Taylor will moderate a Q&A with Mr. Walker which will include a screening of BLACK SANTA'S REVENGE as well as the World Premiere of David Walker's: THE DAY THEY RAN OUT OF BULLETS.

MACKED, HAMMERED, SLAUGHTERED, & SHAFTED  Popular and controversial, outrageous and profound, few film genres are as misunderstood as blaxploitation. Examining the meaning and the history of black films of the 1970s, David Walker's documentary Macked, Hammered, Slaughtered & Shafted seeks to give the blaxploitation film its proper place in cinematic history. Featuring interviews with crucial players like Jim Brown, Fred Williamson, Ron O'Neal, Rudy Ray Moore, Jim Kelly, and many more, Walker's film offers an insightful look at a pivotal moment in American popular culture that would forever change how black were portrayed in film.

BLACK SANTA'S REVENGE  Ken Foree (Dawn of the Dead, Devil's Rejects) stars as a down-on-his-luck Santa Claus. When a gang of thugs steals all the toys from the local community center, Santa goes on a vigilante rampage. Based on the short comic book story first published in BadAzz MoFo, Black Santa's Revenge is an homage to the grindhouse exploitation films of the 1970s.

THE DAY THEY RAN OUT OF BULLETS  Two mercenaries, facing certain death after they run out of bullets in a deadly firefight, confess their past misdeeds to each other. But instead of finding peace during their final moments, the truth only creates more conflict in this extremely dark comedy.
