The Rhode Island Songwriters Association (RISA) was founded in 1993 by a small group of individuals dedicated to the art of songwriting. They met weekly to share songs and experiences as songwriters. As interest in the group grew, so did the RISA membership. With growth came visibility and a broader mission - to establish a songwriting community that would not only nurture Rhode Island and Southeastern New England songwriters, but showcase their many talents as writers, musicians and performers.
RISA's membership now includes songwriters and performers as well as "non- musicians/writers" who support the goals of the organization. The membership has worked countless hours to earn a place within Rhode Island's diverse cultural community.
RISAS mission is to encourage, foster and conduct the art and craft of original lyrical and musical composition; provide educational programs, critique sessions and performance opportunities for all artistic styles; and support open collaboration within the RISA community.

The Rhode Island Songwriters Semi Annual Showcase featuring 4 members of the RISA Community in concert is coming to Sandywoods. Each performer has a 30 minute solo set featuring their own original compositions.
RISA has 145 members from over 7 different states and is recognized as a leader in songwriting circles.

RISA President, Chuck Williams, hosts the event. This showcase features the music of Lisa Couto, Tom Smith, Dawn Kenney, and Grant Maloy Smith.
