The Bout Against Breast Cancer
The Bout Against Breast Cancer will be held at the Broken Arrow Sports Rink, 551 W Oakland St. Broken Arrow, OK. (Just south of the Elm Street Exit off the Broken Arrow Expressway). The Green Country Roller Girls face off against the Northwest Arkansas Roller Girls in a benefit for the Young Survival Coalition of Northeastern Oklahoma. YSC is a national organization focusing on education, and support for women under the age of 40 who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. (www.youngsurvival.org) The Oklahoma chapter just organized in October, 2007, has over 30 members so far, but their numbers are growing. One of the NWA team members is a breast cancer survivor, who was diagnosed at age 30. So awareness is close to the heart of her team members.
If you have not witnessed flat track roller derby action, this is your opportunity to bring the entire family for a night of fun, learning, and helping younger women cope with breast cancer. Roller Derby Girls are tough, but breast cancer survivors are tougher! Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door for adults and children 12 and under are free. Tickets can be purchased online at www.BreastImpressions.com or at www.greencountryrollergirls.com. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the bout begins at 7 p.m.
Breast Impressions has cast 11 members of each team and their male coaches, and local artists in both states have decorated the casts. Jay Litchfield, Northeastern Oklahomas premiere auctioneer will lead the auction, and 100% of the art proceeds will go to YSC locally. Each woman attending will receive a Self Breast Exam shower card, provided by the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Broken Arrow businesses have provided door prizes that will be given away during the evening.
Breast Impressions, Inc. mission is to increase breast cancer awareness and fundraising to support breast cancer education, prevention and treatment. Breast Impressions, Inc also donates breast casting kits to women who have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer, and would like to make a casting of their own prior to surgery.
