Paul Barrere & Fred Tackett, the two guitarists from legendary Little Feat, first played together on the album Dixie Chicken some twenty-five years ago and since then have played together or individually on numerous recording sessions for Little Feat and countless others including Bonnie Raitt, Taj Mahal, Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Dionne Farris, and the Wallflowers to name a few. When not touring with Feat, they like to unplug and share a laid back evening of Little Feat hits and more.
Barrere, who covers guitar and lead vocals for Feat and Tackett, who plays guitar, trumpet and mandolin, perform songs from the Little Feat catalog, with a decidedly different twist. Fred and I love to perform live, and it's kinda strange how this all got started says Barrere. When we travel with Little Feat, we sometimes get asked to go to radio stations to do promotion for shows, and "could you please bring a couple of guitars and play a tune or two?"By playing these songs with just two acoustic instruments, it put a whole new spin on the material - more bluesy, rootsy, almost folk like - and we really started to get into it. That was the beginning of our spin-off career as a duet.
The evening, which includes Little Feat hits like Willin, Dixie Chicken and Rocket In My Pocket also showcases songs from both Barrere & Tacketts solo projects, as well as the albums they have done as a duet. I think fans come out wondering how we can interpret these songs with just two guitars and a mandolin Barrere says. I try to explain to them that the songs are the stars of show, as opposed to the band which is such a force. I think people really appreciate that. Its fun for us. We have a great time doing it.
