RECSI September Dinner Meeting
A Joint Meeting of Local Chapters of ASHRAE and The Construction Specifications Institute Present

Program: Out of Control Controls

The controls industry needs to step up the quality of software and sensors. Industry expert Peter Rumsey takes a look at the inherent problems within the building sector and the superfluous need to commission new buildings. The controls industry business model includes selling inadequate software and sensors that do not work effectively as installed. Building owners are unnecessarily asked to pay to verify that new systems actually work. Studies show that 90% of buildings with HVAC controls and systems do not work properly in the first year of occupancy. We need a better controls paradigm where a project's success no longer hinges on who installs the system or which software is used. Controls should work properly the first time and consistently deliver comfort and energy savings.

Cost: $32.00

Program Speaker: Peter Rumsey, PE, FASHRAE
Mr. Rumsey is a national leader in the design of low energy buildings; Peter has designed mechanical systems for data centers, clean rooms, and laboratories that are among the most energy efficient in the U.S. He is a registered professional engineer in 10 states, a certified energy manager, and a Senior Fellow of Rocky Mountain Institute. He is a graduate of UC Berkeley's mechanical engineering program and is a frequent lecturer at industry events, conferences, and colleges and universities including UC Berkeley and Stanford University. The focus of Peter's career has been on transformation of the building industry by designing affordable and drastically energy efficient buildings.
