Ojai Film Society presents: Last Cab to Darwin
A curmudgeonly cab driver, Rex (Michael Caton), drives across Australia to arrange his own death in Darwin, where euthanasia is legal. His internal isolation is captured in shots of the desert and the small towns huddled across it. Yet, as in all travel tales, Rex encounters Tilly, an indigenous man, and Julie, an English nurse, who reveal the deep pleasures of being alive. While the themes seem familiar, those he meets and those he cannot leave behind, especially his soul mate Polly (Ningali Lawford), give the story lasting resonance.
