Event
Ali Akbar Moradi
Ali Akbar Moradi is the greatest living master of the Kurdish tanbur, a small, pear shaped lute made of mulberry wood that can sound like a Turkish saz when strummed or a North Indian sarod when played melodically. One of the most ancient instruments of southwestern Asia, it dates back to the third millennium BC and is the only instrument used in the rituals of Ahl-e Haqq, the Sufi-influenced religion of the Yarsan people of Iranian Kurdistan, who venerate it as a sacred object and whose music will be featured in this concert.
