Tucked into his pickup truck and combing the busy avenues and colorful neighborhoods to find the best that LA restaurants have to offer, Gold writes about the highest achievers and the best wannabes that dot the environs of southern Californias glittery gourmet gem. Its a demographic and cultural feast with remarkable insights into Golds own psyche and his personal history.
The Pulitzer-winning Gold, who can be heard regularly on Evan Kleinmans Good Food on NPR, is at once ruminative, loving, questing and congenial in his pursuit of the many facets of LAs food proprietors. What comes through strongest, though, is his deep love for his city.
