Matt Lewis & the Medicine
Matt Lewis and The Medicine is the most recent project of renowned singer-songwriter Matt Lewis. Known for his quick-witted lyrical improvisation and his wholehearted songs; Lewis's music is evidence that the singer-songwriter genre still has a few tricks up it's sleeve.
Composed of former members of The Matt Lewis Band; The Medicine, have taken their unique blend of musical backgrounds and created a style all their own. Comparisons run a muck to Tom Petty, The Grateful Dead, Jack Johnson, Ryan Adams, Ben Harper, Sublime, G-love, Willie Nelson, 311, Jason Mraz and The Zack Brown Band. As the Daily News Minor in Fairbanks Alaska put it, What if Jerry Garcia added a little freestyle rap to the Grateful Deads routine? A bit unfathomable for sure, but such blending of hip-hop and free form jamming is not out of reach for the Matt Lewis and The Medicine.
By combining their unique approach to music with energetic and interactive live shows, Matt Lewis and The Medicine have been accumulating fans the old fashioned way for the last 8 years. Making new friends everywhere they go, they have developed a loyal fan-base and sold over 10,000 records without label support. Lewis' ability to engage a crowd by spitting rapid fire freestyles to topics chosen by his audience, is as equally impressive as his ability to bring the crowd to tears with meaningful songs about love and loss. As one writer for The Source in Bend OR. recently wrote, Its remarkable that a guy who can freestyle at roughly 1,000 words per minute can switch gears to Neil Young strum-and-hum coolness, but Lewis and company do just that.
ML&TM have shared the stage with such bands as Maroon 5, The Violent Femmes, Soul Asylum, G Love, The Neon Trees, The Fugees, Ryan Bingham, Randy Travis, Elliot Smith and Snoop Dog.
Their combination of catchy songs that resonate with audiences and energetic live shows have produced a loyal fan-base vigorously willing to spread the band's music. If you have not yet heard of Matt Lewis and The Medicine, you soon will.
