Songs of Shakespeare
Friday 21st October 7.30pm Trinity College Chapel, Cambridge Join us in Trinity College Chapel for a wonderful evening of music inspired by the poetry and songs of the great bard. Shakespearean song settings by Purcell, Finzi, Quilter & Gershwin Gabrielli cello sonata & Fantasia on Greensleeves
Julian will sing alongside his cellist brother Rickman, and they will be accompanied by distinguished pianist and conductor Stephen Barlow, who, as organ scholar at Trinity College, performed frequently with Rickman as the continuo players for Sir Peter Pears. Stephen himself is no stranger to celebrity as he is married to national treasure Joanna Lumley. The three musicians will be joined by Fiona Godlee (Editor in Chief of the British Medical Journal BMJ) who will provide readings from Shakespeares wealth of plays, poems and sonnets.
All four performers are alumni of Trinity College. The music will include Shakespeare texts set to music by Roger Quilter, Gerald Finzi, Henry Purcell, Vaughan Williams, Cole Porter and Gershwin. Cello pieces will include Gabriellis cello sonata and Vaughan Williams Fantasia on Greensleeves. The concert will take place in the excellent acoustic of Trinity College Chapel and is given in aid of local charity Elizabeths Legacy of Hope which supports child amputees around the world. Tickets £16, £11 (concessions & under 18s) Tel: 01438 869334
