THE JOURNEY CONTINUES

Volti closes its 38th season of singing without a net with a concert featuring the works of a British visionary, a Danish elder statesman, and three bright young American composers.

"The journey continues" with "Santiago," from Joby Talbot's four-movement "Path of Miracles." Come walk with us on this sublime and awe-inspiring* musical pilgrimage along the legendary Camino de Santiago across northern Spain.

In "Wie ein Kind," Per Nørgård creates a confrontation of two poetic expressions, those of the great poet Rainier Maria Rilke and the tortured Swiss schizophrenic Adolf Wölfli.

Coming home to American composers, we sing the works of three winners of our young-composer competition, the Choral Arts Laboratory or CAL.  Ted Hearne, now one of the brightest rising stars in the world of new music, was Voltis CAL composer in 2010. Well sing his "Consent," in which he considers the issue of consent through texts from love letters, marriage rites, and text messages used as evidence in the 2013 Steubenville rape trial.  From Tonia Ko, last years CAL composer, we reprise "From Ivory Depths," setting imagery taken from the writings of Virginia Woolf, and we premiere "Like a Strange Sigh" from this years CAL winner, Jack Hughes.
