'A Hand of Bridge' by Samuel Barber & 'Trouble in Tahiti' by Leonard Bernstein
STL Opera Collective presents Samuel Barber's 'A Hand of Bridge' & Leonard Bernstein's 'Trouble in Tahiti.'
In "A Hand of Bridge", set in 1950s Suburbia and lasting only about 10 minutes, we encounter two couples on their weekly Bridge game night. The inner lives of each character is revealed and nothing is quite as it seems with these two "American-Dream-Living" couples.
A tragicomic tale, "Trouble in Tahiti", tells a "day in the life" story about Sam and Dinah's seemingly eroding marriage and the failure of the white-washed American Dream in 1950s Suburbia.
