The House of Tudors: Music of the Monarchs
Grace Cathedral's GREAT SPACES Music & Arts Series presents The Spire Chamber Ensemble under the direction of Artistic Director, Ben Spalding.
For more than a century, the Kingdoms of England and Ireland were united under the rule of the Tudor dynasty. Henry VIII's break with the Catholic Church, Queen Mary's return to the Roman faith of her mother, and Elizabeth's union of England under the Anglican Church were the backdrop for what was England's golden age of musical composition one which saw both tumult and glory. Spire traces the stunning musical legacy of England's most memorable first family by featuring the works of Thomas Tallis, William Byrd, and Sheppard, plus modern descendants of the Tudor dynasty, including Britten, Vaughan Williams, and more.
