Music Fit for a King (or Queen) with Sarasa in Cambridge
Frank Zappa once said "All the good music has already been written by people with wigs and stuff." Sarasa is delighted to welcome American countertenor sensation, Christopher Lowrey, and the delightful lutenist Michael Leopold to portray an especially intimate and integral account of pieces performed for famous kings and queens in history. Additionally, it is a chance to discover works dedicated to those royal patrons who were also avid instrumentalists and who, through their influential musical circles, contributed considerably to the 17th- and 18th-century sonata repertoire.
Program for January 28, 2017 at the Friends Meeting House in Cambridge, MA will include:
Selected arias for countertenor and basso continuo, Sonatas for Baroque cellos and for solo theorbo. Works by Purcell, Dowland, de Visée, Händel, Gabrielli, Scarlatti, Porpora, Kapsberger, Vivaldi and Lanzetti.
Christopher Lowrey, countertenor; Michael Leopold, theorbo; Timothy Merton, cello; Jennifer Morsches, cello and five-string piccolo cello.
**Please note that there is no admission charge for children 12 years old and under.
