CAPtivating Rhythms
Chelsea Area Players presents CAPtivating Rhythms" on July 20, 21 and 22.
Forty years ago, a cast party attended by several Chelsea High School theater alumni planted the seed for the Chelsea Area Players. The group produced its first musical, "The Sound of Music," in 1972.
The following summer, CAP opened as a community theater company with "Fiddler on the Roof," featuring as Tevye the 18-year-old Jeff Daniels, who would subsequently appear in four other CAP productions.
Today, CAP produces at least three shows a year: a youth theater production, winter dinner theater and a summer musical.
This summer's musical review, CAP's 96th production, features numbers from that 40-year history and stars both alumni and newcomers, youth and adults. CAPtivating Rhythms will be directed by Carrie Jay Sayer, a Dexter acting and vocal coach, who has also worked with Dexter's Encore Musical Theater Company.
CAP will host an alumni reunion reception after the Saturday night performance.
