2016 Reach the Peaks Hiking Challenge
Reach the Peaks is the premier single day hiking challenge in North Carolina. The event offers a strenuous 10 mile world class trail route that will test participants to summit the five major peaks of Hanging Rock State Park, including Moore's Knob, Cook's Wall, House Rock, Wolf Rock, and Hanging Rock. All participants should report to the Event START/FINISH location at the Hanging Rock State Park Visitor's Center Parking Lot on Saturday, September 24, 2016. CHECK IN for the Hiking Challenge portion is scheduled from 8:30am until 10am. ALL Hiking participants are required to begin no earlier than 9am and no later than 10am. Advance Registration is $25 per person and ends on Friday, September 9 at 5 pm. Day of Registration is $35 per person. The Hiking Portion of the 2016 Reach the Peaks Challenge will be limited to the first 600 participants to sign up, whether Advance or Day of. THE REGISTRATION DEADLINE TO RECEIVE AN EVENT T-SHIRT IS FRIDAY, September 9 AT 5PM. Registrants before September 9 at 5pm will receive an event t-shirt, bandana with trail map, post-hike meal/beverage, and trail safety team sweeps. Registrants after September 9 at 5pm will receive post-hike meal/beverage, bandana with trail map and trail safety team sweeps. NO WATER will be available on the route, but will be available for participants to fill their personal water bottle at CHECK IN. Participants who complete the challenge will receive a specially created embroidered patch, and join a select group of hikers who have completed this single day hiking challenge.
Dog registration is $15 per dog, and can be completed by calling 336-593-8159. Each dog receives a Reach the Peaks bandana (and patch should they complete the hike). Only well-behaved dogs welcomed, with ALL dogs required to be on a leash throughout the entire event. Dog participants must bring documentation of most recent rabies vaccine and bordetella vaccine.

Triad Outdoor Painters will be capturing the day through paintings that will be exhibited the month of October in the Visitors Center, with a reception scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 2 from 2pm to 4pm.
Hanging Rock State Park is located at 1790 Hanging Rock Park Road, Danbury, NC and is the 2012 North Carolina State Park of the Year with over 7,000 acres of hiking trails, waterfalls, lake/beach/bathhouse, campground/cabins, visitors center, and Dan River access.
