Oakland Summer Reading Orchestra (hosted by CWO)
The Oakland Summer Reading Orchestra is a fun way to play great music, meet new people, and improve your sight-reading skills! This summer session is sponsored by the Community Women's Orchestra but open to all genders and personal identifications. PLEASE INDICATE YOUR INSTRUMENT WHEN PROMPTED AT CHECKOUT; THANKS!
WHAT: five reading sessions, Thursday evenings from 7:30pm to 9:30pm
WHEN: July 14, 21, 28 and August 4, 11
WHERE: Lake Merritt United Methodist Church in Oakland, conveniently located on Lake Merritt in the heart of Oakland (there is parking)
WHO: amateur and professional orchestra musicians of the Bay Area
COST: $50 for the 5-week set; pay in advance
Repertoire and conductors are subject to change, but here's the lineup so far!
July 14 - Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 5 Dana Sadava, conductor (CWO Music Director, Opera San Jose, Pasadena Opera)
July 21 - Dvorak Symphony No. 9 Alexander Kahn, conductor (Director of Orchestral Activities, Sonoma State University)
July 28 - John Williams Selections from Hook, Grofe Mississippi Suite David Möschler, conductor (Awesome Orchestra Collective, Mountain Play Association, College Light Opera)
August 4 - TBD
August 11 - Copland Hoe-Down, Tchaikovsky Nutcracker Suite No. 1, Saint-Saens Bacchanale James Stopher, conductor (Professor/Conductor at College of Marin)
