Southeast Asia to United States Submarine Fiber Cable Project
As Hawaiian Telcom examined ways to address the exponential growth of IP bandwidth for Hawaiis residential and business customers, it realized new Transpacific fiber cable projects were bypassing Hawaii. Studies showed that at the current pace, Hawaii would reach internet congestion & exhaust by 2018 or sooner. Hawaiian Telcom reached out to several consortiums planning Transpacific systems and joined the SEA-US consortium to build a state-of-the-art $250M undersea fiber network linking Indonesia, Philippines, Guam, Hawaii, and California. This multi-year project had its challenges but is now in its final year of implementation and when complete will serve Hawaiis needs for the next 25 years.
Speakers Bio Daniel Masutomi has been part of Hawaiian Telcoms Technology group for the past 29 years and heads its engineering department. During his tenure, he has been a part of or led many of the largest network transformation projects for the company including the Rural Service Upgrade program, the Analog to Digital Switch conversions, the MPLS network implementation, and the IP Television network build.
