Announcing a special fortnight residency Tuesdays June 7 and June 14 at the Lizard Lounge with songwriter, bassist, and producer Kimon Kirk and his all-star band, The Meds. Each week features a special guest. Look for the incredible Lyle Brewer on June 7 and the ever surprising David Champagne on June 14.
Kimon Kirk and the virtuoso Meds return to the carpets of The Lizard Lounge as a fully-formed rock 'n' roll band. These monster players own virtually any genre of song-oriented popular music: crafty pop, heartfelt country, late-night jazz, edgy rockabilly, swinging blues,
soul-inflected balladry nothing is off limits. Kirk, founding member of Session
Americana and sideman to Aimee Mann, Sarah Borges, Melissa Ferrick, and Will Dailey, is joined by keyboardist Jamie Edwards (Aimee Mann), guitarist Lyle Brewer (Dennis Brennan), bassist Jim Haggerty (The White Owls), and drummer John Sands (Lisa Marie Presley). Kirk and the Meds celebrate the release of a new single, "Baby Who Knows," written and recorded with Aimee Mann. Band members have long worked as touring and studio session players with a variety of artists and performed as a unit with Aimee Mann, Grant-Lee Phillips, Ramona Silver, and Lori McKenna. Each week, the Meds will perform with a special musical guest, each a peerless songwriter, performer, and collaborator.
Tonight it's none other than Lyle Brewer performing with just a guitar. Lately Lyle has been studying classical guitar so look for a new layer to his already stellar repertoire. He will certainly be performing solo guitar pieces from his excellent albums "Juno" and "Postcards" as well as works by JS Bach.
