LAVA Music presents Blame Sally in the beautiful Abounding Grace Sanctuary.
Blame Sally is a collaboration of four of San Francisco's most celebrated female songwriters, Monica Pasqual, Renee Harcourt, Jeri Jones, and Pam Delgado. All active solo artists in the Bay Area, the four began meeting several times a week in 2000 to share dinner and trade songs, carving out a collaborative sound rooted in folk, Americana, and country. Before long, the self-described "living room band" had developed a healthy local following, prompting the bandmates to abandon their solo careers and record a live album which was released in 2001. Things snowballed from there, with the band issuing several self-released recordings before signing with Ninth Street Opus, a Berkeley-based indie label in 2009. They made their official debut for the label with 2011's "Speeding Ticket and a Valentine", the group's fifth album.
Almost everything about this group runs contrary to conventional wisdom. For one thing, they put their individual careers aside to start Blame Sally when they were in their late 30's and 40's, the age at which most bands are breaking up and starting solo careers. For another, this is obviously an "all woman" band, not a "girl group" made up of youthful upstarts. Splitting the front person status among each of the four members goes against the agreed-upon maxim that every group needs a strong focal point (agreed upon by everyone but the Beatles anyway).
Blame Sally appeals to a wide variety of people. They have fanatical fans in their 40's and older, as well as plenty of young girls who just think they're cool.
Blame Sally will perform at Abounding Grace Sanctuary, 2450 S. Kolb, just north of Golf Links on the west side of Kolb, from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Advance tickets are $15 online, all fees included. Tickets will be $20 cash at the door. Doors open at 6:30.
