Jefferson Healthcare proudly presents legendary folk singing group The Brothers Four on Saturday October 1st at the McCurdy Pavilion in Port Townsend's Fort Worden State Park and Conference Center. All profits from the concert go to benefit the Dove House, a non-profit organization providing confidential and free services to survivors of domestic violence and victims of other crimes in Jefferson County.
Schedule for the evening: 6PM VIP Soiree 6:30 Doors open to the public 7:10 Show Time 8:00 Intermission - No Host Bar 8:20 2nd Half
The Brothers Four were global pioneers of the folk revival musical movement, and are one of the few groups from that time still performing today. Their all-acoustic presentation consists of guitars, banjo, upright base, and of course, the trademark rich blend of their four voices. The smooth, musical sounds of The Brothers Four have delighted millions for five exciting decades!
The full-time lineup of The Brothers Four is as solid as ever, and currently includes: Mike McCoy, a veteran folk performer and singer/songwriter who has performed with The Brothers Four on recording projects and stage presentations since the late 1960s; Karl Olsen, a folk performer, choral director, writer and arranger, who is the latest addition to the group, blending his vocal and guitar skills smoothly into the sound of The Brothers Four; Mark Pearson, guitarist, banjo player extraordinaire and singer/songwriter, who has been a strong and consistent part of the groups signature sound since he joined in the late 1960s (and lives in Port Ludlow!); along with Founding Member Bob Flick, bass player, group leader and singer/songwriter. An evening with this quartet is an unforgettable time of pure, acoustic music and entertainment.
The Dove House is the only organization in Jefferson County providing services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, stalking and general crime. Using an empowerment and active listening model, and walking alongside survivors as they overcome barriers and rebuild their lives, Dove House Advocates offer ideas and options that address the issues that the client faces, and then support them in whatever decisions they make. Options include: housing assistance; emergency financial assistance; navigating and signing up for benefits (cash, medical, food etc.); immigration assistance; parenting support; support in navigating childcare and school needs; and more. Counseling-Based Advocacy also provides emotional support as survivors process a huge range of emotions, including grief and loss, anger, shame, fear and so much more. In the last year (Sept 2015 August 2016) Dove House served a total of 597 people seeking DV services. 124 of these people were children and 62 were ages 60 and over and 100 were male. The 24-hour Crisis Line received 1,196 crisis calls and the emergency shelter provided 3,807 bednights with 1,795 of which were for children.
Wear purple at The Brothers Four Concert! Purple is the official color of Domestic Violence Awareness, and event coordinator Danny Milholland encourages all guests to wear their finest purple hats, pants, dresses, ties and blouses to stand in support of Domestic Violence awareness and prevention.
