Call and Response
About the Show
Call and Response is a new contemporary music series that explores the process of writing and performing music. Emerging composers will have a piece premiered and engage in conversation with the musicians performing the work, as well as the audience, about the composition's conception, execution, and how it may evolve.
By taking conversations about performance practice, notational systems, interpretation and creativity out of the practice room and putting them on stage, audiences can pick the brains of composers and performers and gain new insight into the creative process.
For March's Call and Response concert, Olivia J. P. Harris and Robin Rhodes will perform Peter Askim's "Spirals." and then improvise in a response to the work. Our conversation will explore the challegnes of "Spirals," contemporary performance practice and improvising outside the jazz tradition!
