The Merkin concert marks over 25 years of fruitful collaboration for the Auerbach-Pierce duo; They are planning on recording this program for MSR Classics.

Guiseppe Tartini  Sonata in G Minor Devils Trill
Alois Hába  Hudba for Solo Violin, Op. 9b
Johannes Brahms  Sonata in G Major Op. 78 No. 1
Ernest Bloch  Baal Shem Suite -Three Pictures of Chassidic Life

The Musicians:

Hailed by the New York Times as a player with quiet virtuosity, Dan Auerbach holds B.M. and M.M. degrees from Juilliard, as well as a D.M.A. from Rutgers, where as a student of Arnold Steinhardt he received the Irene Alm Memorial Prize for a graduating doctoral student for excellence in performance and scholarly research. Currently, an assistant professor of music at the College of Staten Island, he is in demand for university recitals and masterclasses throughout the U.S. He enjoys performing and researching klezmer, world, and microtonal music and is looking forward to performing Alois Hábas Hudba for Solo Violin in quarter-tones at Merkin Concert Hall.

Award-winning pianist Joshua Pierce has distinguished himself as one of the most prolific recording artists of recent times, having recorded more than 230 works; The complete piano concertos of Beethoven, Brahms, Gershwin and Liszt for MSR Classics figure prominently among his recorded output. Classical Net Magazine has said "Joshua Pierce possesses an arsenal of pianistic talents that can astonish the ear and instruct the mind." He has had numerous premieres as a soloist and with such orchestras as the Moscow State Philharmonic, the State Symphony Orchestra of Russia, The Philharmonia of London, The Royal Philharmonic, Berlin Radio Symphony, Luxembourg Philharmonic, RAI Rome, Czech National, Utah Symphony, and Philharmonia Virtuosi of New York among many others. A major proponent of contemporary music, Pierce maintained a 30-year association with composer John Cage during which time he gave many premiere performances and released numerous landmark recordings of his work.
