Event
Elizabethan Ardor
To paraphrase Shakespeare, "music and sweet poetry agree," especially when it comes to expressions of ardor in Elizabethan times. In this program, Barbara Hollinshead (mezzo-soprano) and Howard Bass (lute) weave lutes songs and solo music into a rich tapestry of love in its many incarnations: hoped for, newly discovered, pursued, requited and unrequited. The fabric is provided by the leading composers from the royal courts of Elizabeth I and James I Dowland, Morley, Campian, Danyel, and Ford, among others. Never before, and never again (with the possible exception of Lennon and McCartney's heyday) have music and the English language united in such celestial harmony.
