Bemidji Symphony Orchestra presents "A Walk with Peter and Prokofiev"
Guest violinist Everaldo Martinez is welcomed back to the Bemidji Symphony Orchestra stage to perform Sergei Prokofiev's lyrical and virtuosic Violin Concerto No. 2. Also on the program is Mozart's exuberant "Impresario" Overture, along with everyones favorite orchestral fairy tale, Prokofiev's "Peter and the Wolf." Sophisticated enough for adults, Prokofiev wrote "Peter and the Wolf" as a child's introduction to the orchestra, with each character in the story represented by a different instrument. The concert is sponsored by First National Bank Bemidji, and parents and guardians are reminded that students in grades K12 are admitted free.
A native of Honduras, Everaldo Martinez studied violin performance as a boy at the Francisco Diaz Zeleyea Conservatory of Music and was mentored by American violinist, Elizabeth Clendenning of the Cleveland Orchestra. He earned his American performance degree in violin from Southeastern Louisiana State University, followed by two advanced violin performance degrees, at the Masters and Doctoral level, with John Gilbert at Texas Tech University. Dr. Martinez has been in demand as an orchestral and chamber music performer and has appeared at a number of summer festivals all over the country. In addition to his violin and conducting work, Martinez is also a composer, writing in a wide variety of styles.
This activity is made possible, in part, by a grant provided by the Region 2 Arts Council through an appropriation from the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the State's general fund. The BSOs concert season, "Passionate Journeys," is supported, in part, by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts.
