Cape Breton Stepdance Workshop
Anita MacDonald is an accomplished musician, dancer, and Gaelic singer from Little Narrows, Cape Breton. She began stepdancing in the family kitchen at the tender age of four, and picked up the fiddle a few short years later, at age eight. Anita has been wowing audiences with her impeccable timing and neatly choreographed steps ever since.
When she is not performing, Anita is often sought after to conduct workshops in music, dance, and song. She has worked with the Ottawa Cape Breton Session, Champlain Valley Traditional Arts, PEI Fiddle Camp, and has been a regular summer instructor at Féis an Eilein, in Christmas Island. Anitas passion for Cape Breton music has also enabled her to work extensively with the cultural component of Féis an Eilein for the past eight years.
In addition to her own projects, Anita has also been featured on Jean MacNeils instructional stepdance video: Spring In Your Step, as well as Cape Breton Live Radios compilation album: Cape Breton Live: Take 01.
Please bring comfortable shoes with a leather or hard sole, running shoes or shoes with lots of traction would not be appropriate. Bring a video camera if you like to record the steps taught.
Depending on class size and attendance, a separate beginner group may be lead by local step dancer Beth MacGillivray. Workshop will be on the third floor of Montgomery Legion Hall. Advance registration preferred, onsite registration will be available space permitting. Tickets for a concert and dance at which Anita will perform (Feb. 27 8pm) are available online at http://cbsession.brownpapertickets.com/ or at the workshop.
