Marie Alatalo: Piano Music of George Crumb
Noted for her performances of contemporary music, pianist Marie Alatalo presents works by American composer George Crumb.
The program features two works:
"A Little Suite for Christmas" (after Giotto's Nativity frescoes in the Arena Chapel at Padua)
...and
"Makroskosmos (Volume 1)", a group of twelve fantasy pieces, one for each sign of the zodiac.
Both conventional and unconventional piano techniques are used to create evocative sounds ranging from ethereal to evil. The pieces envelope the listener in a world of spatial effects that is distinctly George Crumb.
