Frances Black, Aoife Scott & Fionán de Barra with Tommy McCarthy & Louise Costello At The Burren
Irish singer Frances Black will be performing to raise funds for her family support charity, The RISE Foundation. Frances'  daughter, singer/songwriter Aoife Scott and guitarist Fionán de Barra, will also be performing with her, along with renowned musicians Tommy McCarthy and Louise Costello.

Frances set up The RISE Foundation in Ireland in 2009 to support family members who have a loved one with an alcohol, drug or gambling problem. She is very passionate about her work with RISE, and went back to college to study to be an addiction therapist. As part of her training Frances worked in a leading treatment centre, and it was through this experience that she saw the stress and heartache on families. She realised that more support was needed for family members who were often extremely anxious and worried about loved ones who had an addiction problem.

"We have huge problems with alcohol in Ireland at the moment, and if  you have someone that you love with an alcohol, drug or gambling problem, you can often feel so powerless," she says. "It's difficult to understand that you can't control your loved one's unhealthy behaviour, you didn't cause it and you can't cure it. Watching someone you love go down that road can be devastating."

The RISE Foundation supports families in distress and provides a ten-week family programme, along with a one-to-one counselling service. Since RISE opened in 2009, over 3,000 family members have come through the service and many have found the experience life-changing. RISE does not receive any government funding.

Frances has recently supported Jack Kilroy in setting up Friends of RISE-Ireland, Inc. It is an American-based non-profit charity.  Currently, its sole charitable project is to raise funds and raise awareness of The RISE Foundation in Ireland and provide general support for the work that they do. The Boston performance is one of three US fundraisers in January to help support the valuable work Frances is undertaking in Ireland.
