The Cathedral Choirs: Requiem
Each November the Cathedral choirs perform a Requiem concert, on or near to the feast of All Souls. This year the concert will feature the Cathedral Schola Cantorum, a small ensemble dedicated to the performance of Renaissance polyphony, performing the 5-voice Requiem (the Catholic Mass for the Dead) of 16th-century Spanish composer Cristobal de Morales. In the second half of the concert the Cathedral Choir will perform a selection of 19th and 20th century music, including the Brahms Geistliches Lied and the Arvo Pärt Beatitudes. This beautiful ancient and modern music is a reminder of the fear and sadness of death, certainly, but also of the ultimate hope of eternal rest in heaven.
