RACHMANINOFF'S VESPERS ("All Night Vigil")
The City Cantabile Choir, directed by Frederick N. West, will present the immortal Rachmaninoff Vespers, perhaps the most beloved choral work in the last century of acapella sacred repertoire.
A challenging work in Liturgical Russian for many divisi parts and Tenor and Alto soloists, the 15 movements are nearly an hour of gorgeous harmonies with chant rhythms and bell like settings of the voice. The range of solemn chant to festive celebration is inspiring and wondrous to sing!
As a special treat the evening will begin with The Dunava Balkan Women's Choir, directed by Dina Trageser. They will be singing stunning harmonies from Bulgaria, Croatia, and many more parts of the Balkan Peninsula which has given birth to some of the richest and oldest folk singing traditions for Women.
