Event
Cello Mania
Not one...not even two...but THREE internationally acclaimed cello soloists will join the Youth Orchestras of Fresno onstage at the Shaghoian Concert Hall on Sunday October 11. The three distinguished guests, in town as part of Fresno State's Cello|Fresno Festival, will be performing a passionate and unusual three-cello concerto by maverick composer Krzysztof Penderecki. The guest artists are Emilio Colón, of the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, Philippe Muller, of the Manhattan School of Music, and Csaba Onczay, of the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, Hungary.
Also on the program will be two as-yet-unknown young winners of Cello|Fresno competitions, who will perform virtuoso pieces by Popper. Fireworks, as his name suggests!
Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, Thomas Loewenheim, conductor Penderecki: Concerto Grosso for Three Cellos and Orchestra Popper: Hungarian Rhapsody for Cello and Orchestra Popper: Tarantella for Cello and Orchestra
