Stranger Neighbor Live at the Linen Building
LIVE AT THE LINEN presents STRANGER NEIGHBOR reunion concert Oct. 12 at the LINEN BUILDING

Popular '90s University of Idaho band toured country for nearly three years before parting ways

Live at the Linen presents the Stranger Neighbor reunion concert at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at the Linen Building, 1402 W. Grove St. in Downtown Boise's Linen District. Boise Rock School (boiserockschool.com) will open. $15 advance, $20 at the door; advance tickets available at brownpapertickets.com starting Thursday, March 22. All ages, full bar (I.D. required), Pie Hole pizza. Plenty of free, off-street parking is available at the Linen Building.

Stranger Neighbor was a band formed at the University of Idaho in Moscow in 1995.  They had a weekly gig (Thursday-Saturday for two years) at the Capricorn Ballroom in Moscow, where they played covers and worked up a set of original songs. The band consisted of Douglas Cameron (guitar, vocals), John Fricke (trumpet, guitar, vocals), Casey Miller (drums) and Ryan Gibler (bass).

Stranger Neighbor quickly became part of the soundtrack for many U of I students and their college years, developing a sound that some described as acousti-funk-pop-jazz-jam. In 1998, they released their debut album "Memories of This," relocated to Denver and hit the road, playing an average of 220 shows a year.

In 1999, they released a live album, then went into Colorado Sound Studios with producer Kenny James and Grammy-winning engineer Kevin Clock to make their third record "In This World." They toured everywhere west of Milwaukee, opening for such acts as Big Head Todd and the Monsters, The Samples and Calobo.

After 2 1/2 years of non-stop touring, Casey Miller and Ryan Gibler left the band on good terms but no farewell show ever happened. In early 2012, all members decided this needed to happen, and Oct. 12 in Boise was chosen as the date and location to say "thank you" to all the fans who made their run so successful and special.
