One down two to go! 18 Reasons is hittin' the road this summer! In the second of our three part farm tour series with our trusty tour guide Simon Richards, the Head Farmer at Bi-Rite Farms, we are visiting some lip-smacking berry farms that send the message home that organic and local tastes so much better...Yerena and Tomatero Farms!

At Yerena Farm, brothers, Apolinar and Gilberto Yerena, along with 6 full-time employees and help from their sister, Berta, and other brother, Guillermo decided to get their own farm after farming for Driscoll with their parents for 12 years. They began in 1982 growing conventionally, but in response to market demand converted 5 trial acres to organic. The organic fruit sold so well they eventually decided to transition the entire farm to organic. Presently, 10 acres are certified organic by Monterey County Certified Organic (MCCO) with the remaining 12 in transition.

Tomatero Farm is located in Watsonville, CA, just south of Santa Cruz and 5 miles from the California coast. Our farm has been C.C.O.F. certified organic from the start in 2004. The ranch is owned and managed by Chris and Adriana.  They began to farm out of a youthful aspiration to be inspired by what we do for a living; Adriana was 21 and Chris was 25. We borrowed a neighbor's tractor and had a credit card to begin our adventure on 4 leased acres in Santa Cruz County. Fast forward years of hard work later, they now begin their adult years as growers and as people.

**Lunch is provided by 18 Reasons and is included in the ticket price. We will facilitate carpooling to each farm and will reimburse drivers for the gas that they use.**
