Local roots hero David Johnston releases his new CD "Carnival of the Soul" tonight at The Lizard Lounge. The band will feature John Sands on drums and Marty Ballou on bass.

Cambridge based songwriter/bandleader/street musician David Johnston celebrates the release of his first recording in almost ten years. 'Carnival of the Soul' showcases the talents of drummer John Sands and bassist Marty Ballou and was produced by Chris Rival. The past year and a half has been hugely significant for David. In April of 2010, J. Geils frontman Peter Wolf's brilliant 'Midnight Souvenirs was released and included one of David's songs 'I Don't Wanna Know. The song became the second single from that album and was performed on the David Letterman Show on June 10, 2010. Original Rolling Stones manager and SiriusXM DJ, Andrew Loog Oldham, ranked the song at number three for the year 2010. Midnight Souvenirs became Wolf's highest-ranking release on the Billboard 200 chart since his 1984 solo debut Lights Out.
