Ruth King Band @The WindHorse Theatre
Ruth King: It's not just the music, it's the STORY
Rhythmic acoustic blues infused with emotion and charged with an edgy, percussive vocal presence. It carries the sound of acoustic blues combined with the undertones of disciplined jazz, and the playfulness of R&B.
Ruth King will perform her Live Reality Show in concert with her 6-Piece Acoustic Blues band: The Ruth King BAND. The show is a blend of a Musical Documentary in original song and the rhythm and blues cover songs we all know and love.
When performing live, her songs have moved people to propose marriage, to grieve lost loved ones, to celebrate new journeys, and to part with hard memories. Perhaps that is because, buried deep within her voice is the lilt of hope -- the type of hope that pulls you to your feet, reminding you that life is worth living.
Her songs carry the strength of a survivor. In her music, one can hear a refusal to accept defeat. Her style somehow combines spunk and vigor, sensitivity and edginess.
People need an artist who understands how difficult life can be, and music that gives them the strength to hope for a better day Ruth King is that artist.
RUTH KING - Lead Vocals, Guitar
Ruth's singing career began with musical inspiration from her entertainment family which led to her early years of self-taught guitar playing and songwriting. Thomas Duffy reviewing for the Orlando Sentinel wrote, "The strength of her presence is undeniable, like that of a veteran raised on stage." This is not far from the truth.
Ruth studied classical music on scholarship at Florida State University before venturing out with her own original genre of song she calls Acoustic Blues. As a music publisher and producer, Ruth's original songs have crossed-over into the realm of recorded music, music videos, and radio airplay.
In concert Ruth King's whimsical comic storytelling gives the back story to original songs from her CD's. These song intros are provocative expressions of her perspective and experience. Anecdotes of humor, hope and personal journey come forth with a contagious lightness of heart and joy of spirit.
Ruth's covers of popular music are infused with her own unique brand coupled with deep roots in soul music of the sixties and seventies.
Ruth performs live with her band entertaining audiences who soon come to realize that with Ruth King: It's not just the music, it's the story.

VALA RHEA BENNETT - Vocals, Percussion
Multi-talented Vala plays guitar, harmonica, ukulele, violin and is a songwriter. Originally from Lubbock, Texas, Vala entered the entertainment arena singing and dancing in the 1980s/90s bands that toured the Southeast region of the USA. Vala holds a passion for harmony and blends especially well with other voicings in an ensemble setting. Vala Rhea brings an element of excellence to every stage she graces.
SANDY JAMES - Drums, Percussion, Vocals
Sandy James seems to be able to play any musical instrument she picks up. Sandy produces music, is a studio engineer, sings, plays rhythm and lead guitar, plays the bass, drums, mandolin, piano, percussion, the ukulele and composes her own songs. Originating from London, England Sandy has performed world-wide as Drum Corps leader.
MICHAEL LOMAN - Piano, Hammond Organ B-3, Vocals
Michael Loman and I began playing music together in the mid 80s. This soulful talent writes music, arranges, plays piano, sings, orchestrates strings and horns, and plays the Hammond B-3 organ. From upstate New York I present to you Michael Loman on keyboards.
LARRY ZIEGENFUSS - Violin, Vocals
Extraordinary violinist Larry Ziegenfuss expresses a myriad of enchanting musical moods, melodies, and dynamics on this four-stringed instrument. Larry is classically trained. He started out on the cello at age ten. Larry's ownuniquemusical style span the genres of classical to jazz,Latin to gospel, country and bluegrass to rock andblues. Larry comes to us from Williamsport, PA.
LYNN EDMOND - Bass, Vocals
Lynn Edmond has a fascinating story of musical beginnings. In his early twenties his church band needed a bassist. So they handed him a bass they purchased at the dime-store and said, "You're it"! Lynn learned to play the bass and forged on to an impressive, life-long career traveling on tour and playing in bands since that day. Lynn Edmond, our only native Floridian, is a remarkable musician with the right blend of showmanship.
