Jamie Laval Masterclass in Charlotte
The class will begin with a brief lecture/demonstration by Jamie, providing an overview of Celtic music and a discussion of the career path Jamie followed from professional symphony player to top-ranking fiddler. Next Jamie will coach a few pre-formed ensembles or solo fiddlers in a masterclass format with everyone observing. Finally, all participants will take up their instruments to learn to play some short samples of traditional Irish and Scottish music. Bowing patterns, ornaments, rhythmic emphasis, arranging, developing good intonation, and how to practice efficiently will all be explained and practiced. The class will be taught without sheet music; printed music will be passed out after the class. We will encourage a fun, non-judgmental learning environment. Audio recorders welcome. All levels of violinists, fiddlers, chamber groups and other instrumentalists are welcome
