Walker County
Desa Records recording artist, "Walker County" is a family band that hails from Sulphur Springs Indiana. The band consists of, lead singer and rhythm guitar player, 16 year old Ivy Dene Walker, her sister, 13 year old Sophie Dawn Walker on drums, their father Billy on lead guitar, and their cousin Jim on bass. The Band got its start in the summer of 2007 street performing on Nashville Tennessee's famous Broadway, singing standards from Patsy Cline, Dolly Parton, and the likes.
The Band played for the next several years at any and every event that came their way. They could be found, playing nearly every weekend somewhere around the State. The Band was originally an acoustic act that performed bluegrass standards, classic country, and folk music. Finding many of their gigs at county fairs, fund raiser, and parties, they learned to be prepared and how to entertain almost any kind of crowd.
As the girls grew older, the band began to start expanding their sets to include popular favorites, and their own original music. This really fit the band well and the girls blossomed as performers. It also opened a whole new world of performing possibilities. Ivy Dene, the lead singer had been performing the National Anthem for years, and was now starting to sing at major sporting events in the area such as the Indianapolis Indians games, Hoosier Horse Fair Rodeo, racing events, and The Hall of Fame Classic. The band as a whole started adding shows to their resume' that included The Indiana State Fair, World Famous Tootsies Orchid Lounge in Nashville, a three day stint at 2010 CMA Fest, and The Pepsi Coliseum. While playing larger shows, the band did not stray away from anything that came their way, still playing local benefits and intimate venues.
This family band blends a great mix of country, rock, southern rock, pop, and soul to make for a very entertaining show. Always writing and trying to keep up with current music, while never abandoning the classics has been a great recipe for this band, and their fans. Like the weather in Indiana, it won't be very
long before something different comes along!
Walker County is currently in the studio working on a brand new cd, due out this spring or early summer!
